Beverly Bowers

Beverly May Bowers of Gower, MO, passed away on March 26, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones. Beverly was born to Erskin L. Moxley and Edna L. (Shewmaker) Moxley, in Gower, MO, on November 22, 1927. On March 28, 1948, Beverly married Melvin (Pete)Bowers, the love of her life, and they built their lives and family in Gower for 50 years, until his death in 1998. She also was preceded in death by her sister, Dixie J. Divelbiss, and her late-in-life close companion, Clifford Gregory.

Beverly was the most loving Wife, Mom, Grandma (Nana), Sister, Aunt, In-law, and Friend! She is survived by her four children, Phil Bowers (Annita) of Overland Park, KS, Kathy Rawlings (Sam) of Rockville, MD, Donald Bowers of Rockwall, TX, and Ronald Bowers (Tami) of Royse City, TX. In addition, she is survived by several Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and family by affection. 

After graduating from Gower High School in 1945, Beverly went to work at St. Joseph Power and Light. For most of 60 years, she was a bookkeeper, working for the Gower Lumber Company, St. Joseph Paper Products, The City of Gower, and in retirement, until she was 80 years old, for a couple of local businesses in Gower. She lived all her life in Gower, until at 87 years of age, she moved to Country Squire Independent Living in St. Joseph, MO. Three years later at the age of 90, she moved to Maryland to live, first near, and then with, her daughter, Kathy and family. Almost a year ago she moved to Mustang Creek Estates Asst. Living, in the Dallas, TX area, near her sons, Ron and Don, where she was living when she passed away.

Beverly was very active in the Gower Community and served on The Clinton County Health Board. She was a charter member of the Chat N Nibble Club for 70 years, was in several bridge clubs, and various other groups. Beverly was an active member of the Gower Baptist Church all her life, where she sang in the choir, including solos and quartets, taught Sunday School, and was on several committees. Her hobbies and interests included music (singing and playing the piano), love of nature, collecting and making butterfly arrangements, collecting rocks and seashells, sewing, making quilts, flowers and gardening, crafts, art, dancing, traveling, and most of all, any activity that involved her children and grandchildren!

Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at the First Baptist Church of Gower, MO, at 2:00pm, followed by burial in the Allen Cemetery in Gower, MO. Visitation will be held at the church the night before, Wednesday, April 26th from 6pm -8pm. Donations may be made, in Beverly’s honor, to the music department of The First Baptist Church of Gower MO.
