Bill Hay

William Floyd Hay, Jr., 89, of Kansas City, MO, formerly of Edgerton, MO, passed away February 24, 2024.

He was born on April 12, 1934, to William Floyd, Sr., and Anna Bertha (Pierce) Hay in Dearborn, MO and in 1952 he graduated from Edgerton High School.

On October 2, 1953, he was united in marriage to Maralyn Matthews. After their marriage they lived in Edgerton, MO and later Lathrop, MO where they raised their family. 

Bill worked for Ben Franklin Warehouse for 25 years and later retired as a janitor from the North Kansas City School District. He enjoyed coaching his sons in little league, fishing, square dancing, and most of all being with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents William “Wack” and Anna “Granny Wack” Hay; his brother Kenny Hay, his sister Marie Rickel and his granddaughter Laura Hay Humphrey. 

Bill is survived by his wife Maralyn Hay; his sons Gene Hay and wife Kelly and Mark Hay; grandchildren Aaron Hay, Rebecca Hay, Anna (Jason) Jacobs, Maj. Kaylee (Ben) Ausbun, Rachael (Jarod Thrasher) Hay, T-Sgt. Caleb (T-Sgt. Lynse) Hay, Jake (Bailey) Matney, and Courtney (Nick) Summers; eight great-grandchildren; brother Ronnie Hay; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. 

Visitation: 1:00-2:00 p.m. with Funeral Services at 2:00, Tuesday, February 27th at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home in Smithville.

Burial: Terrace Park Cemetery, Kansas City, MO
