The Condolences for

Charles "Eddie" Highlander

Alma Jean Kephart
Peculiar, MOI

I am so sorry to hear that Eddie has passed. We were neighbors when I was a kid and all though elementary to high school. I visited Mary Lou and Eddie a lot and they were very much friends and role models to a degree! . I would play with Debbie when she was a baby and then toddler and on through childhood. I really thought a lot of them and am so sorry to hear this. When I think about it, I realized that most of the people I knew from Camden Point ⁶as a child have passed away and gone on home are gone!! This really makes me sad. My condolences to Debbie and her family as well as the rest of their family. Eddie was a stand up guy and really funny! God bless and keep him and I pray for his family to stay strong and god will help you through it.

So many experiences growing up in Platte City with Eddie and his wife Mary Lou operating their business on Hwy 92 will forever leave life long memories. My deepest thoughts are shared with their daughter and her family at this time of loss.

Dearest Debbie and family, I'm so sad to hear that Eddie has passed on. I have known he and Mary Lou since I was a child, and I loved them both dearly. My mom and dad (John & Patsy Baber) loved them as well and the four of them were friends for decades. Eddie was the most patient and tactful man I've ever known. He was always interested in you, always so happy to help, and had a way of making you feel like you were so special to him. He and Mary Lou watched me grow up and knew both the good and the bad, but only ever saw goodness. Your parents were of great comfort to me many times, and were especially so a few years ago during a particularly painful time. Eddie was the "Salt of the Earth"--there were none richer in both decency and honor. I am privileged to have been his friend, and my memories of he and Mary Lou are sweet and comforting. God bless you during this time, while trying to accept losing your hero and missing him so terribly. I pray that your memories of your dear father will sustain you, and I know those memories will also bring you increasing joy as these first long days pass. I was unable to attend his funeral, and so wish I could've said goodbye to him and spoken briefly with you. Please accept my most heartfelt sympathy, and I pray you are comforted with the knowledge that he is home with our Lord and with his dear Mary Lou, and likely with many others who have welcomed him thus with glee.

I have many wonderful memories of both Eddie and Mary Lou. I am saddened by this news. Debbie, your parents were more “grandparents “ to my kids than their own were. We all loved going to their house!!
